Compostable Does Not Mean the Same as Biodegradable

Industrial compostability and home compostability are also different. Industrial facilities maintain higher and more stable temperatures, while home composting conditions are less controlled. Claims must reflect the certification actually obtained.

What Materials Can Be Used?

Compostable films may also have narrower sealing windows than conventional plastic laminates. Filling speed, jaw temperature, pressure, and dwell time need validation on the actual packing equipment.
Storage conditions must be considered carefully. High temperature or humidity may affect some compostable materials before disposal, so expected distribution routes and warehouse conditions should be shared during development.

Testing should cover environmental claims and package function separately. Certification does not prove that a pouch will protect pet food for the required shelf life.

Simpler bag designs can make qualification easier, but convenience and product protection should not be removed without evaluating their effect on food waste and user handling.
What Should Buyers Provide to the Manufacturer?
A packaging manufacturer needs the product composition, oil and moisture characteristics, target shelf life, fill weight, pouch dimensions, filling method, storage climate, target market, closure needs, printing, and required compostability standard.
Compostable packaging is most suitable when a verified disposal route exists and the finished bag can still protect the food throughout distribution. Clear certification scope, realistic performance testing, and accurate consumer instructions prevent environmental goals from becoming unsupported marketing claims.
